Bringing people together to advance freedom

It seems that we are constantly at odds with one another these days. Issues have become ever more divisive, there is no room left for any common sense middle ground, and the rhetoric is only getting worse. The major political parties and politicians are content with the status quo that enriches them but I believe that the people are not. I have repeatedly seen and heard statements from people lamenting the division and bickering. This hyper-division will only continue to disenfranchise the people of Colorado and serves no purpose but to advance one political ideology that government is the answer to all problems.

I am here to say that we should be working together to figure out alternatives to fighting, partisanship, and government overreach. I believe we should be limiting the scope of intrusion by government into the lives and pocketbooks of the people. There is more need than ever to scale back the role government plays in our lives. To act like government is the solution to all problems in our country is to erode the freedoms we should all be enjoying.

We need not devolve into a mob rule society in an effort to restrict freedoms but instead begin to embrace all of the natural rights of people. If we start supporting each other in a voluntarily charitable manner we will become less dependent upon government. This puts the profession of politician at great risk because public offices become more about the people, less about the politician, and even less about the power. This is contrary to the goals of the major political parties which explains why division, unrest, animosity, and fear are so important to them. If they lose their power and importance many of them will be forced to live in the real world with the rest of us. Many will not get the personal aggrandizement they so longingly seek. Many will not be able to loot communities for the benefit of their close friends and supporters.

Libertarians, such as I, believe in putting our constitution first and foremost. Following the original intent and letter of the constitution and not twisting and perverting it to our own ends. We have faith in the goodness of people. I know that the free market is not something government must watch over with bayonets at the ready but a mechanism more powerful than any other construct on earth. Capable of enabling people to lift themselves up by their own boot straps, able to give choice and competition a fair shake while simultaneously eliminating the ability for corporations to grow into the leviathans that exist today because of the lack of enabling government regulations and increased competition the free market brings.

Empowering people, defending and not limiting the property rights of individuals, and overturning the government feeding trough of tax dollars are key to a vibrant future for Colorado. With the support of the people, who are tired of government largess and the politicians who border on megalomania, we can return our state and nation to the path of freedom we were intended to travel.
